James Tate, Samuel Tate 1806 Spartanburg SC connection to Brewton/Bruton family

Can anyone comment on the relationship between my ancestors David Bruton/Brewton b 1736 VA & wife Susannah unknown, and James Tate who married Nancy Anne Campbell & their son Samuel Tate? This deed I recently found has me VERY curious!

page 327~p. 402~ 15 Feb 1806 - David and Susannah Bruton to Samuel Tater (Tate?), son of James Tater (Tate)(Spartanburg); for love and good will give a "firy" year old horse about 13 hands high, kind of chesnut sorrell with a blase face, and no brand. Witness James Leatherwood. Sined David Bruton and Susannah's mark. Wit
oath 7 Nov 1806 James Leatherwood to William Hendrix. Rec 10 Nov 1806.

Clearly "Tater" is a transcription error, because no such surname existed in SC.

Before coming to Spartanburg SC on Fergusson Creek near Tyger River, David Brewton/Bruton was in Anson/Tyron Co NC, which apparently became Mecklenburg NC, and from what I've seen on the internet, James Tate was from Mecklenburg.

Comments greatly appreciated!!
