Larkin Baker - b. Abt 1795
First Generation

Larkin Baker was born abt 1795 in NC. He married Elizabeth
Brush on July 6, 1815 in Pulaski County, KY. In 1820 Larkin
was living in Pulaski with his wife and three children. Soon
after the census was taken, Larkin moved one county over to
Rockcastle. Sometime in the early 1830ís Larkin and his
family left Kentucky and settled in Clay County, IN.

Larkinís wife, Elizabeth, probably died before 1847. Larkin
married 2nd Mahulda (Denny) VonTrees, daughter of Zachariah
Denny, widow of Jacob Vontrees. On the 1850 census for Owen
County, Larkin was listed with wife Hulda Baker, age 47, born
in NC; James J. Baker, age 3, born in NC (?); and Eliza A.
Baker, age 2, born in IN. Larkin died in 1851. Hulda then
moved to Boone County, IA, and in 1855, married robert Schooler.

Larkin was a farmer. He may also have made money buying and
selling land. In 1840 Larkin was named administrator of the
estate of Charles Brush and guardian of three minor Brush
children. It is believed that Charles Brush was the brother
of Elizabeth Brush.

In 1842 Larkin Baker sued Shadrack Phipps for monies owed.
Shadrack lost the suit and was ordered to pay $34.17Ĺ plus
interest. Meshack Phipps acted as surety for his brother.
The debt was never paid.

Children of Larkin Baker and Elizabeth Brush:

1. Mary Baker born abt 1816
2. Richard Baker born September 20, 1817
3. Nancy Baker born abt 1818
4. Joel Baker born December 26, 1820
5. Sarah Baker born March 22, 1823
6. Susannah Baker born abt 1825
7. Martha Baker born abt 1829

Based on census records, there were probably four more
unidentified children.
