Hello Ken,

I saw your entry in the Brunt Forum and thought I'd contact you. I don't think that your Brunt's and mine are related, but it's not a very common name so who can tell.

My mother's maiden name was Brunt. Her family lived at Dinnington which is near Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Her father's family was I beleive originally from the Leicester area but may have also spent some time in Staffordshire.

I do know of the Brunt family in Masborough as I found details when I was researching my TAYLOR family line. I found George Taylor, my 2 x great grandfather, and his family living at Charles Street, Masborough in the 1871 Census and I can recall seeing an entry for the family you refer to. For yor information the area around Charles Street, whilst being in the St. John's Masborough enumeration district, is in fact known as Thornhill.

I think that part of Charles Street may possibly have been re-name Milton Street at some time between the 1871 and 1881 Census'.

I live in the Rotherham area and get down to the local studies section in Rotherham quite often, so if you get stuck on a line of research I would only be too pleased to help.

Best Regards,

Alyn Hodgson
