Maybe some relation. My great-gf, also Joseph Brunet, b.1835 in US (1st generation b. here), changed his name to Brunais. According to my aunt, he came from a large family and had at least 3 brothers by names of Joe, William, and John. My aunt thought there were 9 brothers. My cousin, Ellsworth, is our family expert.
