from the Kennebec Journal, ME WINTHROP -- Elnora "Nora" DeBlois, 98, of Morton Street died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Heritage Living Center in Winthrop. She was born in Winthrop on Jan. 23, 1906, the daughter of Hilaire and Isabel (Dostie) Bruneau. Educated in Winthrop schools, Nora had worked as a nurse's aide at the Augusta Mental Health Institute until her retirement in the 1970s. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop, Catholic Women's Club, Ladies of St. Anne, Winthrop Senior Citizens, Winthrop Garden Club and the Winthrop Extension Club. She enjoyed working the soil with her hands in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar DeBlois, in 1966; and by her brothers Wilfred and Richard Bruneau. She is survived by her daughters, Lorrette Littlefield of Wakefield, R.I., and Lorraine Tomah of Augusta; her son, Maynard DeBlois and his wife, Arline, of Winthrop; two sisters, Rosa "Cot" Gaylord of Winthrop and Ruth "Doodo" Libby of Portland; a brother, Pete Bruneau of Florida; sisters-in-law Mary DeBlois of Winthrop and Grace DeBlois of West Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Manor for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Nora, especially Bonnie and Annette. Visiting hours will be private. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Winthrop, with the Rev. Sylvio Levesque as celebrant. Spring burial will be in Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the St. Francis Xavier Church building fund, Lakeview Avenue, Winthrop 04364.
