George F. (May 9, 1853-Jul 13, 1925) and Mary (Herod) (Sep 6 1844-Jan 3 1940)Brumfield are buried in the Brumfield Cemetery at Seiling, Dewey County, Oklahoma. His mother was Cintha Monday Brumfield Smart (Oct 26, 1829-Oct 7, 1885). I have a copy of George Brumfield's obituary. He died in Aline, Oklahoma (the family moved there in 1917) and was brought to Seiling for burial. This cemetery is located on his land that he filed homestead on in January 1894. George, Mary, and their 5 girls (Laura, Musetta, Maggie, Nellie, & Stella) are buried in this cemetery. Maggie died in 1893 and was the first burial in the cemetery. George was a half-brother to John Henry Smart. Cintha married Hezekiah Smart (Jan 29, 1860) in Glens Valley, IN after John Brumfield died. George had a full brother William A. Brumfield (Jun 09 1850-Nov 21 1888). I don't have any more information on William A. or John Brumfield. From the information I have, both George and William were born in Indiana; George in Glens Valley, IN. Cintha was born in Kentucky. John Henry Smart made the run into Oklahoma, also. My husband is his grandson and the family still lives and owns this original homestead near Seiling, Oklahoma. John Henry Smart is buried in Brumfield Cemetery. He had 4 sisters; Laura, Harriet; Maggie; and Ida. All are buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Glens Valley, IN as is Hezekiah and Cintha Smart. The old home of Hezekiah and Cintha still stands in Glens Valley. This past year I visted Glens Valley and met a cousin Norris Ross who is over 90 years old. He had a copy of Cintha's obituary which I transcribed. DIED - Mrs. Smart, wife of Hezekiah Smart, on October 8th, 1885. Her son, William had been traveling in the west for the past two years and she was laid away to await his return. She had been sick for about a month. Her father was one of the early settlers coming to the county (Johnson County, IN) when she was quite young. William did not arrive in time to receive his mother's dying blessing. I have much information on these families and am happy to share any information.
