James Brumfield, son of Micajah??

He is my g-g-grandfather, and I have seen several references to him being the son of Micajah Brumfield and Eleanor Clay.
He was born Tazewell or Giles, VA ca 1803-1807.
The first documentation I have is his marriage in Wake, NC to Harriet Dodd in 1827.
Any idea how to prove this link?
