Dear Shirley,
the village "Schlichting" where my father was
born is located around 20 km north of Heide, main town of Dithmarschen, Schleswig-Holstein, only about 15 km from the North Sea coast (with or without hyphen in English?). There are quite a lot of members belonging to the "Schlichting-family" today, some of them even friends to our family and I do believe they must have their roots in Dithmarschen, where their sirname is very common. I hope this might be of help to you, Bye for now, Katja/Germany
