I think that the James Bruford who you assumed was your grandfather, is incorrect.
In 1887 Robert would have been 69 and his wife would have been 74. I have been working on the Brufords for the last 9 years.
I have only 1 record of a James being born anywhere during the time period when he would be the likely missing grandfather. He is James born 4 November 1849 in Hill Farrance, Somerset. I have no further information on him so I presume he left
Somerset before he got married. I have no
Thomas being born 1877. The closest
I have to that date Thomas registered in 1889 and born in Poplar London ref. 1c 663.
If the James above is "yours" then we
are related, he being the cousin of my great grandfather Charles.
I have a son who lives in Bess Carr in Doncaster and when I have we have gone to the seaside and I have been tempted to call on the two Brufords who are in Grimsby but have never quite plucked up the courage to do so. They are M. Bruford 11 Jutland Court and Richard 28 Janton Court both New Waltham, Grimsby. Hope I have been of some help to you, even if it is on the negative side. Regards, Viv.
