Hello,

I just discovered this posting of yours by accident while searching for something else.

Alexander Burt BROYLES Sr. was my great-grandfather. Yes, he was born 13 Mar 1886 and died 2 Mar 1986. He was born in Steubenville, Wayne County, Kentucky. He died in the Leonard (Texas) Nursing Home.

I have a photo of his gravestone at Indian Creek Cemetery in Leonard, Texas if you'd like it. I visit his grave, as well as the graves of all my family members at Indian Creek, very frequently.

Alexander Burt BROYLES Sr. was living in the Leonard Nursing Home at the time he was approaching 100 years of age. The local newspaper, The Leonard Graphic, did a news story on his approaching 100th birthday, and quoted him as saying, "When I was a young man, I always used to say, 'I want to live to be 100, then I'll be ready to meet my Maker.' But now that I'm turning 100, I'm starting to rethink that plan."

"Alex" BROYLES and his wife Gertrude Belle JENNINGS BROYLES had divorced when my grandmother Gazelle BROYLES, their daughter, was a teenager. I never met Alex because my grandmother and her mother never had anything to do with him ever again after the divorce. But I did know Gertrude, and I visited her often when she was alive and I was a young man.

I have several photos of Gertrude if you would like to see those. (Although she only married into the BROYLES fmaily.)

You mentioned Michael BROYLES, Alexander's father.

Michael BROYLES was born Oct 1831 in Boyle, Wayne County, Kentucky. I have a photo of him if you'd like it. It's from around 1870.

Michael died in Leonard, Texas on 10 Oct 1904. He is buried next to his wife Nancy Winifred BURNETT BROYLES at Indian Creek Cemetery in Leonard, and I visit his and his wife's graves frequently also. (My family and I live near Leonard, and Indian Creek has been our family cemetery for 130 years and we try to visit our ancestors' graves often to place flowers and keep their graves clean and upkept.)

A published history of Leonard, Fannin County, Texas, says that Michael BROYLES and his wife Nancy Winifred BURNETT owned about 480 acres known as Broyles Hollow in Wayne County, Kentucky.

On 6 Jan 1901, Michael BROYLES and his family arrived in Trenton, Fannin County, Texas by train.

The family first settled at Callis, west of Pike, in Collin County, Texas.

Nancy bought a farm in 1907 in Leonard and later moved into Leonard near downtown, on Clark Street, where she lived for the rest of her life.

I have a picture of Nancy also, if you'd like it.

I also have photos of all the BROYLES graves at the Indian Creek Cemetery. If you want copies of any of them, let me know.

Glad to be of service to a fellow BROYLES.

- Cliff PEARSON (grandson of a BROYLES).
