James' wife, Mary, is believed to be the daughter of William SAUNDERS who died intestate in 1790 in Chatham Co., NC. John SAUNDERS, son of William and possible brother to Mary, gave a deposition for John BROWNLOW when BROWNLOW was wounded {Rev War battle at Haw River} and carried to his mother's house in Pittsboro, Chatham Co., NC. William SAUNDERS widow, Agnes or Agatha {name appears both ways in same document}, married Richard STRAUGHAN, Sr after the death of her husband, Wm. SAUNDERS. Richard STRAUGHAN and his first wife, Lucy POE, had a son named Stephen STRAUGHAN {b. c1757}.
