Civil War record of John Lee Brownlow

Civil War records show that he enlisted as a Brevet 2nd Lieutenant 19 Oct. 1861 in the 32nd Tn. Infantry. He was promoted to 1st Lt. of Co.H 8 Nov. 1861 until 18 Sep. 1862. He was Captain of Co.H from 19 Sep.1862 until he resigned due to ill health 14 Mar. 1864. He was captured at Ft. Donelson,Tn 16 Feb. 1862 and was a POW at Camp Chase, Ohio the at Johnson's Island at Sandusky, Ohio until exchanged at Aiken's Landing,Va. Sep. 1862. He was noted to be sick Jan.- Feb 1863 and July - Aug. 1863. I have some paperwork signed by him 15 Dec. 1862 for 15 poll axes, 11 shovels, and 5 picks these being necessary for public service. In another Special Requisition he requests 4 skillets,2 iron pots, 7 camp kettles, 8 mess pans, one oven, 10 axes, 7 spades, 3 picks, 2 axe ___, 9 tents, 35 jackets, 15 overcoats,40 pairs of pants, 23 cotton shirts, 31 pairs of cotton drawers, 34 pairs of shoes. In a requisition dated 21 Mar. 1863 he requests 30 cotton shirts, 7 pairs of pegged shoes, 7 pairs of wool socks. On 4 Oct 1862 he requests 3wall tents, 5 camp kettles, 6 mess pans, 1 spade, 1 axe, 1 axe halve, 20 canteens, 20 haversacks. These were to replace items lost in the surrender of Ft. Donelson.
