Lisa,
Did you ever find out why James H. Barfield was given custody of Samuel and Isaac? If the papers said he was their uncle, I would think that one of his wives was a Brownlow.
James H. Barfield's wife of his children was a Sarah and they were married in TN. He is married to an Elizabeth in 1830. We do not know either Sarah's or Elizabeth's last names.
Please let me know if you have found any info.
