Ruth,I am not sure what your question is. A letter from Marjorie Helmsholz indicates that 2 brothers James and John migrated from Ireland in the early 1700's to Cumberland Co.,N.C. John became a merchant in Cross Creek,N.C. James moved to Lexington,Va. and opened a Latin School there. His wife was Kate. John married first a Sarah Council. Though unproved, their children are believed to have been:John,Edward,Isaac,Jane,Sarah, and Mary. He married second Rebecca Evans in 1770/71. They had 2 children: James b.1771/73 Cumberland Co.,N.C. d.1815 in Giles Co,Tn. and Mary b.1773/74 who married Ambrose Petty. James apparently moved first to Logan Co.,Ky. Later in 1810 he moved to Lynville on Lynn Creek ,Giles Co.,Tn. His wife was Mary. Their children were:1)Elizabeth b.March 29,1791 who married Stephen Strawn,2)William b.1792,3) John b.1793/95,4)George b.1801 (see more on him in the Giles Co.web site),5)Rebecca b.1794-1800,6)Joseph S. b.June 10,1803 ,7)Mary(Polly) b.1805/6 ,8)Nancy b.1807 ,9)James Polk b.1810. Mrs. Helmsholz also mentions that James and John may have had a brother William who immigrated with them. I also show Stephen Strawn and Elizabeth Brownlow with 5 children:1)William S. b.Jan12,1812 ,2)Mary b.Mar7,1812 ,3)Elizabeth Ann b.1817 ,4)Malinda C. b.Mar12,1820 ,and 5)George Washington b.July24,1821. It would be nice if you could expand this line of cousins further.
