James Brownleey went to McKellar Township in the district of Parry Sound in or around 1878 and was there when his brother Alexander(Sandy)Brownlee arrived in and around 1880 with Alexander's son Alexander Ross Brownlee. James was the first pathmaster in McKellar and was replaced in 1881 as he left the area in 1881 for St Joseph Island.Alexander(Sandy)Had homesteaded there with his son. Alexander had left his wife and children in Osprey township until he and Alexander Ross had built a home. As it was not of good farming Alexander followed James to St Joseph Island and had a couple different jobs with the last one being a lightkeeper for a newly constructed lighthouse for the shipping season. It was during his return trip to Parry Sound via canoe he disappeared in the late fall.
