I found your post very interesting and was quite intriged: First of all, Yes, Nicholas Browning did have a son named Houston, by his second wife, Margaret Colson. My great, great Grandmother was Jane Browning daughter of Nicholas Browning and his first wife, Mary McKinney. What I found interesting was this:

David Harmon Coffman m abt. 1815, Rhoda Shelton. Children: Lucinga, William Lovell, Jesse J. (Jep), Sarah, Robert J., Mary Ann, Nancy Ann, David Harmon, Rhoda Evalina, Serena Ann Elizabeth, Coleman Henderson (Coley), and James Shelton Coffman. He m.2, Louvinia Browning. No children.
Louvina Browning is sister to Mary Browning.... seems as if Mary Browning married her sister's step son?
I would appreciate any info you have on Mary Browning and am willing to share whatever I have that you may need.
As far as will is concerned, this is all I have:
1. Nicholas BROWNING was born on 18 Mar 1786 in Burke County, NC. The birth date of Nicholas, his wives, and his children were taken from his family bible that is in the possession of Wayne Smith of Minor Hill, TN (Aug 1998). He died about 1855. He resided at Giles County, TN 1820 and 1830. He resided at Limestone County, AL 1840 and 1850 in Near Salem, AL. The Nicholas Browning Bible in the possession of Wayne Smith of Minor Hill, TN, had an O. in front of the name of Nicholas. It is unclear if this was an initial. A (B) was listed in front of his birth. (O. Nicholas Browning?).
6 June 1817 - Giles County, TN - Deed from John Browning Sr. to Nicholas Browning, conveying 56 acres, part of the tract on which John Sr. lived, for $400.00. Witnessed by REUBEN RIGGS and James Paisley. Recorded October 8, 1817, Deed Book C., page 181.28 Oct 1823 - Giles County, TN - Deed from Nicholas Browning to REUBEN RIGGS for 15 acres on the east fork of Buck Creek, adjoining David Browning's tract, for $90.00. Witnessed by J. B. Riggs and James Paisley. Recorded October 21, 1824, Deed Book F., page 87. (See note below regarding Erwin Riggs).
20 Jan 1847 - United States to Nicholas Browning SE 1/4 & NE 1/4 of NE 1/4, Section 10, T1R6W.
Nicholas age 63, Margarett age 42, Roena age 18, Martha T. age 17, James age 15, Houston age 12, Manda age 10, Caroline age 9, Luny age 5, Louisa age 3 are listed in the 1850 Limestone Co. AL Census. There is a Viney Browning age 28 and a male child Marion Browning age 6 that are living in the household of Nicholas Long who lives 2 or 3 doors away. Elizabeth Ray is living near Nicholas Long in the 1860 Limestone Co. AL Census.
1855 Limestone Co. AL Deed Bk Vol 9 page 435. Nicholas Browning to Elizabeth and her son David N. Ray for $450.00, NE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of section 10 Township Range 6 West, also SE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Sec 10 T1R6W -- 82 acres.
The death date of Erwin RIGGS was listed in the family bible record of Nicholas Browning. Erwin may have been a brother to Martha Ann Riggs/Ray. His connection to the Browning family has not been determined (30 Aug 1998). Irvine Riggs 21, a farm laborer, born TN, was listed in the household of James and Sally Riggs in the 1870 census of Limestone County, AL. A William Riggs 18, Terry McKinney 25, and Budd McKinney 18 were also listed in this household. Erwin Riggs, white male age 51, divorced, a farmer, his son Cleveland eight born TN, and Sally, his mother forn Jul 1811 (88) widow, born TN, was listed in the 1900 census of Limestone County, AL.
