Wow Carolyn! Thank you so much! I have only just started researching this family when I posted the message and then went away for 3 weeks, so I haven't had a chance to do much yet. Thank you for all your efforts on my behalf (or my neighbour's actually as it is her family.)
I knew the Amies had returned to England for a visit, but didn't know when. I wonder where they were in the 1901 census? Perhaps Thomas A was dead. Florence A died in SUdbury in Suffolk in 1908 so perhaps you may be able to find her in the 1901 census and see if she is widowed.
I will look in the Aust records and see if Thomas died here. It's always possible that he came out with Tom T and family after his wife died I guess.
I found a Nellie Browning b 1877 at CHislehurst in Kent and an Ellen Louise Browning b 1879 at Newchurch in Kent,on the IGI both with mothers called Sarah, so I think I will have to buy the marriage cert to be sure I have the right one.
THanks too for the electoral roll info. I guess you must have Ancestry which would be good. I'm hoping to get some money for Christmas so I can subscribe next year.
I have done a bit of workon Robet Browning the poet but he had no descendants and only one sister who didn't marry so guess I'll have to look further back when I know who Ellen's parents were for sure.
Once again, thank you for your interest.
