Naseemah, Thanks for reminding of the Henrietta Whitfield/Graham connection. I had forgotten. I found an Alonzo Whitfield born 1903/04 Georgia with parents Mary (born about 1876) and Drummond/Drumith/Drumwright (hard to read census- last Drumwright was clearest)) born about 1870. Could this be him? They are in Georgia census for Americus, Sumter Co. GA 1930, 1920, 1910 and 1900 (parents) Alonzo/Alfonzo is listed both ways in different years. In 1930 he is working for the Post Office. as a parcel post courier. In 1930 he is living with his parents but he is married with wife Contance and daughters Marcheta 4-11/2, Patricia 8/12. Could you ask your cousin if he could have been born and lived in Georgia and if his wife and children's names sound familiar to her. If you think this is him I will copy all the census info for you. I am not sure how to figure out if this Alonzo is the same as the fellow who died in NJ - (see next info). There is also an SSDI death record for an Alonzo Whitfield born Jan 18, 1904 died March 1971. It says SSN was issued in Georgia before 1951. Last residence: Camden New Jersey which is interesting as that is where your Frances was. I did find some interesting and confusing info on Eldridge and Johnnie B. though. 1930 CAMDEN, CAMDEN, NJ - 414 Mt. Ewen Street JOHNSON Eldridge, age 29, black, handyman, Elks home, born AL born parents born AL married at age 20 Frances, wife, age 26, black, born AR both parents born AR, first married age 15 (can't be right as she is in 1920 census age 16 single) Zeola, daughter, age 7 , black, born MO father born AL mother born AR Eao (this is how it looks and also as in index) son age 3-8/12, black, born NJ father born AL mother born AR Charles, son age 2-1/12 , black, born NJ father born AL mother born AR Frances, daughter, age 1/12, black, born NJ father born AL mother born AR in same house TAYLOR Monroe, grandfather age 75, black, born AL both parents born AL Mattie, grandmother, age 60, black, born Al both parents born Al 1920 CAMDEN, NJ TAYLOR Monroe, age 63, black, laborer, city, born AL both parents born AL Mattie, wife, age 68 (written over) black, born AL both parents born AL in same house HARRIS Eldridge, grandson age 17, black, laborer, soup company, born AL both parents born AL Johnnie, B. granddaughter, age 13, black, born TN both parents born Al next door BAILEY Napoleon, age 23, black, born TN both parents born TN, laborer, ship yard Druscilla, wife age 26, black, born AL both parents born AL, washing & iron - at home Veronica, daughter, age 1-6/12, black, born MS father born TN mother born AL in sam house HARRIS Charles, brother-in-law, age 40, black, born AL both parents born AL, laborer, ship yard Lucile L. sister-in-law, age 33, black, born Al both parents born AL Roshell, niece, age 14, black, born AL both parents born AL ** I included the Bailey and Harris family only because Eldridge & Johnnie are shown as Harris in this census. I tried to find Eldridge and Johnnie in 1910 but no luck yet. I tried them as Harris and as Johnson as well as Taylor just in case. I also tried them with first names only - still no luck. It is so odd - as Eldridge is with grandparents in 1920 and 1930 it is very odd that there is that name change. I had though it possible that they were born Harris and mother remarried later and they took step-father's name of Johnson but somehow that doesn't seem right. Maybe you could find their birth records and see how they are listed. I would think it possible that Johnnie B. was born in Shelby Co. TN as that is where grandparents were in 1910. 1910 DISTRICE 10, SHELBY, TN - M. Pleasant Road TAYLOR Monroe, age 55, black, second marriage, married 19 years, farmer, general farming, born AL both parents born AL Matty, wife, age 47,black, second marriage, married 19 years, 3 children born 3 living, born AL father born US mother born Al Robert, grandson, age 8, black, born AL both parents born AL Have you heard of the surnames Harris and Taylor before now?? All of this makes sense as to why Eldridge and Frances ended up in NJ. Another odd thing. I thought I would check out the Harris family of NJ and see what happened to them. I was hoping for some kind of connection to Eldridge. I found a Rochelle Bailey right age to be Rochelle Harris (married now) with a Coronica Bailey (Veronice?) living with them - right age to be Veronica, daughter of Napoleon. So seems that the families were all entwined. Of course no proof yet that this Harris family is related but it sure looks like it. Can you tell me if Frances and Eldridge were divorced? Did they move back to St. Louis at some point? I ask because I found a 1959 St. Louis, MO - marriage license application for an Eldridge Robert Johnson age 58, black, born March 3, 1901 Huntsville Alabama - and Ida Mae Cade age 44, black, born April 21, 1915, Arcada, LA. - both are shown as divorced. Eldridge is such an unusual name and he is the right age and born right state. all for now Carolyn L. Notify Administrator about this message?
