Naseemah,
No, I am not tired of you at all. I enjoy finding the info for you. I haven't looked into the Whitfields yet but found a bit on the Rochesters.

CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RECORDS

From these records it seems Geraldine never married.

I haven't been able to find Geraldine's brother John in either MS or CA.

Back to John Rochester (father of Geraldine)

I think I have found him in earlier census records and military records.

** as William and Ella were married 8 years I think we can assume at least Willie M. and John M. are her children.

I have not found John in 1920 yet, but found father.

1920 BEAT 4, ADAMS, MS - Washington Road

Whilimeer, daughter, age 24, house keeping, at home, born MS father born MS mother born KY

I looked for William Rochester in earlier years and think this may be him.

CIVIL WAR RECORDS
William Rochester, age 17, 5"3/4", complexion: yellow, brown eyes, black hair
Born Louisville, KY occupation: servant
enlisted Dec. 8, 1863 Natchez, MS buy Cap't H. Harbert for 3 year term
CO. I - 6 regiment U.S. colored Heavy artillery (Union)

I found a John Rochester who enlisted same day same place, same Co. and Regiment so likely a brother. John died Sept. 4, 1865 in hospital in Natchez

I also found Muster Rolls for both of them: nothing too exciting to find there except for Muster out date of May 13, 1866 for William when he received $27.16 for clothing

John's muster roll for July/Aug. 1865 shows him absent and in hospital
Muster roll for Sept./Oct. 1865 shows he died Sept. 4, 1865

In other record both are shown as listed on African American Civil War Memorial - plaque A-16 for both

U.S. army grave sites shows
William Rochester PVT U.S. Army, enlisted Dec. 8, 1863
Died: Oct. 22, 1938
Buried: Oct. 25, 1938
Buried: Natchez National cemetery, Section A, site: 3680
41 Cemetery Rd. Natchez

Pension records show he applied for pension March 26, 1892 MS

I'm pretty sure this is the right William as he is only one who fits for age and place of birth.

If I think of any other records to check I will and now I'll look for the Whitfields. back to you soon!

Carolyn L
