Naseemah, I found some more for you - some death certificates online at ancestry.com They have images of the actual certificates from 1909 to 1975 so I was able to find a few of your family but no Henry so he must have died before 1909. JOSEPH HIGGS - retired contractor, age 68 Born April 10, 1901 Died April 18, 1969 - Northampton Married - wife - Hattie Johnson Father - Henry Higgs Mother - Ellen Hines Residence - Tarboro Cause of death - drown - boat turned over in Roanoke River Time of death - 3 p.m. Burial - Bonds cemetery, Littleton, NC HATTIE LOUGENIA HIGGS - seamstress age 77 Born Feb. 1, 1892 Died - Nov. 1, 1969 Edgecombe General Hospital Father - Rev. Jack Johnson Mother - Lena Harriss Residence - Tarboro Cause of death - Carcenoma - (could not read words after) - 1 year - Renal failure - 6 weeks Time of death: 3:35 p.m. Burial - Bonds cemetery, Littleton, NC ** I wonder if Lena Harriss is related in some way to Charles Harriss, husband of Irene Higgs. HIGGS , contractor age 58 Born Nov. 12, 1911 Died - Oct. 2, 1970 Married - separated - wife: Kitty Higgs Father - Joseph Higgs Mother - Hattie Johnson Residence - Tarboro Place of death - Durham, Durham - Veteran's Administration Hospital Cause of death: respiratory failure, bilateral pneumonia - 12 hours Informant: Mrs. Judith Higgs, Tarboro Burial - Higgs family cemetery, Halifax Co NC WILLIS COLEY - age 74 Born Sept. 30, 1896 Died May 10, 1971 Place of death- Roanoke Rapids Hospital Married - wife - Irene Higgs Father - Robert Coley Mother - Anna Arrington Cause of death - Cerebra vascular - accident Burial - Zion Hill Church cemetery I also found the following death records but they are in later years so not included in the death certificate database IRENE COLEY - age 81, widow, black born Sept 20, 1902 - died Sept. 12, 1984 Died Nursing and Rest Home - Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co. OTIS HIGGS - age 75, married Born Feb. 17,, 1906 Died June 13, 1981 Roanoke Rapids, Halifax, NC died in general hospital There was a Jacob Higgs, slaveowner - Eastern Division, Halifax Co. NC. He had a large number of slaves- one a male age 7 which would fit with Henry. No way to know if this is him though. Here is a web page that has some interesting info on slavery in NC.
