Robert Browning, the poet´s family
Robert Browning (1782? - 1866), the father of the English poet, Robert Browning (1812 – 1889) who married Elizabeth Barrett Moulton-Barrett (1806 – 1861) in 1846, was the son of another Robert Browning (1749 - 1833) and his first wife, Margaret Morris (?) Tittle(b. St Kitts, West Indies – d. 1789?). In addition to the poet´s father, the marriage apparentlyproduced a daughter and a son who died as an infant. Five years after the death of Margaret Morris (?) Tittle in 1789, Robert Browning married a Mrs. Smith who “gave him a large family.” The writer would be interested in hearing from anyone who might be able to provide further information on Mrs. Smith and of the “large family” as it is through them that persons with a connection with Robert Browning, the poet are most likely descended from. There are no direct descendents ofRobert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Moulton-Barrett as their only child Robert Wiedemann Barrett Browning "Pen" (1849-1912) married in October 1887 an American heiress, Fannie Coddington (1853-1935) and they had no children.
