According to Benjamin F. Wilbour's "Little Compton Families," Mary (Brownell) Wood (1709-1791)was the daughter of Lt. George3 (Thomas2-1) Brownell and Mary3 (Jonathan2, Edward1) Thurston. George3 Brownell lived in that part of Little Compton that is now Westport Harbor, MA.
Joseph4 (John3-1) Wood (1705-1767) is buried along with Mary at the Old Commons cemetery. They lived in Little Compton on West Main Rd. near Taylor's Lane, and had twelve children. There would be a Mayflower ancestry through the Woods because Lt. John3 Wood married Mary Church, daughter of Joseph2 (Richard1) Church and Mary (Tucker) Church. Joseph2 Church's mother was Elizabeth Warren, daugher of Richard1 Warren of the Mayflower. Also, John2 Wood married Mary Peabody, daughter of John Peabody/Pabodie of Portsmouth, RI. That line should be checked for another possibility back through John Alden/Priscilla Mullins, whose daughter married John1 Pabodie. (There's a very good Peabody family website that I'm sure could confirm or deny).
As to your other Little Compton query, Lydia3 (John2, Robert1) Taylor, b. April 1691, married Thomas Cook in 1712. Her family lived at 16B Old West Main Rd., Little Compton, although the earliest parts of the house now there probably date from the late 18th century (and I doubt that the swimming pool now present was installed in time for Lydia to take a dip in). Robert1 Taylor was a ropemaker in Newport and had a farm on what was then called Taylor's Point, now Ochre Point in Newport, where "the Breakers" mansion now stands.
