I am a descendant of the Brownes of Virginia through Coleman, John and Elizabeth, Daniel, Francis, Jr and Francis, Sr. They were in counties like Essex, Orange, Rappahannock and migrated west into what is now West Virginia then through KY and on to Randolph and Monroe Co., MO where they descended from generation to generation until I was born and we moved closer to St. Louis. We dropped the "e" early on.
