I am looking for some help in tracking down my ggg grandfather, Robert Browne of Galway, Ireland.
Robert is born about 1810, clearly he has some money because when he moves to Liverpool and has two children, his occupation is listed as 'Gentleman'.
Around 1845 the Browne family moves first to Boston, then to New York (Brooklyn I believe) in about 1860.
Frances Elizabeth Browne (nee Greetham) is a minor author of the time, she writes a play 'Ruth' and has some poems published by Harvard. She moves to Dallas with her daughter Annie's family and is listed in the 1880 census.
Two children:
James Edwards Browne, born 1841 Liverpool. Nothing
Annie Greetham Browne, born 1844 Liverpool. Marries Albert Stephen Howe in 1866 in New York. Dies in Dallas in 1881.
Does anyone have information about Robert's parents and background?
When / how did the Brownes get to America?
What happened to James Edwards Browne?
Where is Robert buried? Frances? Annie?
Also a family name shows up as a middle name, "Langdon", in this group of relatives. I have traced all other branches of my family and I believe that the "Langdon" family name is linked to Robert Browne's family, maybe in its Irish form "Langan". Perhaps Edwards is as well.
