There was a William Brown in Wilkes Co., NC (by the 1760s or so, it appears), and he left his Will in Ashe Co., NC in 1800/1801.That William Brown and his wife Catherine Unknown had sons named William "Junior," John, Benjamin and Shadrack. Also in Wilkes around that same time were several members of the Tribble family (from VA), including a Benjamin Tribble and a Spilsbe Tribble (Spilsbe fathered a son who was named Shadrack Tribble).Benjamin and Spilsbe Tribble were sons of the "first"/"older" Shadrack Tribble who died in Halifax Co., VA in 1759.Shadrack Tribble was a nephew of the Mary Tribble who married Abraham Brown (died about 1735 in Caroline Co., VA).Mary Tribble was a daughter of Peter Tribble, and Shadrack Tribble was a son of Mary's brother George Tribble.
Per a lot of research, as well as a DNA test, it appears almost certain that the above William Brown in Wilkes Co., NC was a member of the same Brown family as the above Abraham Brown....and that family "traces back" to the Francis Brown "I" who died in Essex Co., VA in 1691/1692 (and that family is represented by DNA "Group 10" at the Brown Genealogy Society DNA project).
Certainly no proof, but your John Wesley Brown could have been a member of that same Brown family. It would be great is a living male Brown who is a descendant of that John Wesley Brown would take the 37 marker Y chromosome DNA test.
