Shadrack Browns (many of them)
Posted by: Bill Davidson (ID *****1886) Date: April 30, 2012 at 15:42:42

There was a Shadrack Brown who married a Polly Tatum in 1802 in Dickson Co., TN. There was also another Shadrack Brown who was out of Wilkes/Ashe Co., NC and who married a Rachel Chambers (I do not know the year of that marriage). I am not so sure about the Shadrack Brown who married Polly Tatum, but the one who married Rachel Chambers was almost certainly out of the William Brown who left his Will in Ashe Co., NC around 1800....and one of his sons mentioned in that Will was named Shadrack Brown (who was almost certain named for Shadrack Tribble who died in Halifax Co., VA around 1759). Does anyone have any information on the Shadrack Brown who married Polly Tatum? Are there any living male Browns who "trace back" to EITHER of these two Shadrack Browns who would be willing to take the DNA test?

There were two other Shadrack Browns in the Bedford Co., VA area in the late-1700s, and one married Hannah Mitchell, while the other one married Tabitha Hall. Those two Shadrack Browns were members of DNA "Group 69" at the Brown Genealogy Society DNA testing project website, and they should not be confused with any of the other Shadrack Browns mentioned herein.

There was yet another Shadrack Brown who married Mary "Mollie" Nance in Lunenburg Co., VA in 1761. It appears that he was PROBABLY a member of DNA "Group 10," but since there is no proof of that, I wish that a living male Brown from that couple (if such a living man exists) would also take the DNA test.

Finally, there was a man in Campbell Co., VA in the 1700s who was named Sheldrake (and some other similar spellings) Brown, and he had an apparent son with the same name who migrated to GA. That given name should not be confused with "Shadrack." Two of the grandsons of the older Sheldrake Brown named John and Henry Brown (grandsons via Sheldrake Brown's son William Brown who was married to a Mary) married Gaines sisters in VA. Does anyone know of a living male Brown who "traces back" to this Brown family in VA? Thanks!
