With a common name like "Brown," it is typically hard to be sure of a lot in cases like these, but there was a William Brown "Senior" in Wilkes Co., NC in the second half of the 1700s, and he died in Ashe Co., NC around 1800/1801 (and Ashe Co., NC had been created from a portion of Wilkes shortly before his death). The sons of that William Brown "Senior" were William "Junior," John, Shadrack and Benjamin (and William Brown "Senior" was married to a Catherine Unknown). This family was obviously "connected" in some close way to the family of Shadrack Tribble (who had died in the Halifax Co., VA area, but whose sons Spilsby, Benjamin and William (at a minimum) had moved to Wilkes Co., NC).
Perhaps the people you mentioned were out of the above William Brown family. We suspect that this family was part of DNA "Group 10" at the Brown Genealogy Society DNA testing project website.Do you know of a living male Brown who is out of the Brown family that you mentioned who could take the DNA test?Comments/questions?
