Samuel C. Brown & Elizabeth (Cox) Brown - Daviess Co, MO
Elizabeth Brown's application for bounty land (Warrant No. 20890) obtained from the National Archives gives the following information:
1. Elizabeth's maiden name was Cox.
2. She and Samuel C. Brown were married "about" August 1, 1808 in Rockbridge County, VA by James King, a mninister of the Gospel, and that no public or private record of said marriage to her knowledge exists or can be produced.
3. Samuel C. Brown died 3 September 1843 in Daviess County.
4. Samuel C. Brown was drafted into the War of 1812 at Rockbridge Co, VA. He was a private in the Company commanded by Captain Abraham Lange in he fifth Regiment of the Virginia Militia comanded by James McDowell. He was drafted on or about the 1st day of September 1814 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said War for the term of three months and was honorably discharged at Camp Cross Roads, Maryland on the 1st day of Dec. 1814.
5. Charles B. Williams filed an Affidavit stating that he was present at the marriage of Samuel and Elizabeth. Note: Charles B. Williams was a close neighbor to Samuel and Elizabeth in Daviess Co (see BLM/GLO records)and was also named as the guardian of Catherine (Brown) and Daniel Ninemire's children in a Petition for Partition of land in Daviess County.
The application file contains Affidavits of Elizabeth Brown, Charles B. Williams, John Hopkins (another close neighbor), and a copy of the original discharge paper for Samuel C. Brown.
