I suggest trying two avenues. 1) Simon died one year short of having a state death certificate which would have had the parents' names. Since he died in 1905 there should be a death record for him on record at the county Register of Wills office. It's highly unlikely it has the parents but it should have where he was born. If any of his siblings lived until at least 1906 in Pennsylvania I suggest trying to get their death certificates from the PA Div. of Vital Records. Being able to get death certificates for siblings who may have died in other states depends on when they died since other states started recording deaths in different years. Simon's obituary might list his siblings that is if he had one, but since he was a Civil War veteran the chances are great he did. The Clinton County Historical Society or the Annie Halenbake Ross Library in Lock Haven may be able to help you as might the Lock Haven Family History Center. 2) Simon received a Civil War pension. The numbers are: Simon: Jan 30, 1880 Appl 343.728 Cert 304.120 Widow Polly: Dec 19, 1905 Appl 839.938 Cert 603.619 You can get a copy of his pension from the National Archives in Washington, DC for $75. It's not cheap and such records vary greatly in the genealogical data they contain but it could contain what you are looking for. It should have info on his marriage and children because his widow would have to had to prove she was actually married to him. As I understand it Civil War pensions will eventually be online but I don't know the timeline. Some are already online at Footnote.com for a fee. Notify Administrator about this message?
