Hi Bonnie,

Well, I don't know too much and I have conflicting information. I have a letter written by my husband's great Aunt who states that my husband's great great gandmother was married to a Till (or Tillman) Brown. My husband's great great grandmother's name was Elizabeth (maiden name was Blackburn). I have her on an 1880 census report as an Elizabeth Scalf and she is living with her daughter Minora and Minora's husband W D McDowell (who are my husband's great grandparents). According to that census report Elizabeth is 59 years old at the time and it also states she was born in South Carolina. However, according to the Aunt's letter she was born in Pennsylvania so I don't know what is correct. In 1839 Elizabeth Blackburn married a Martin Scalf and is on the 1840 Bartow County GA census with him but by 1850 she is gone. In 1870 she shows back up listed as an Elizabeth Scalp and head of household with 3 children (Josephine, Elizabeth (who we believe is Minora) and William) So she may have left Martin at some point between 1850 and 1870 and could have married Till Brown in betwen or she could have married him after the 1880 census (although I personally highly doubt that scenario). I have no informationon Till Brown, when he was born, where he was from, etc. I know that ELizabeth's daughter and her husband W D were both born in Georgia (W D was born in 1850 and Minora in 1857) which leads to some confusion about ELizabeth and Martin. Maybe she left him before 1850, went back to him somewhere betwen 1850 and 1870 and left again before the 1870 census. I've been working on this with a Scalf researcher and there are alot of questions about this situation (more questions than answers). I've tried looking in Georgia, the Carolinas and Pennsylvania for ELizabeth Blackburn and/or Till (Tillman Brown) with no luck. I fairly new at doing this (three months) so maybe you will have better luck than I have. At any rate, thank you for offering to help. I really appreciate it.

Gail
