Searching for letters, journals, and other personal and public documents referencing the life and military service of Silas Brown, also known as Silas L. Johnson, who served in the Second Regiment Engineers, Corps De Afrique, later the Ninety-sixth United States Colored Infantry (USCT). Brown, born a slave in Mississippi, settled in Yazoo County after the war and worked as a farm laborer. His wife, Tibby, also worked as a farm laborer. Brown's parents were born in Virginia.

Any and all information appreciated.
