John Browne d 1663 Rehoboth Ma - A DNA Descendant
I was contacted about a year ago by an elderly man (Elvin Brown) who informed me that according to out DNA, we were a close match and probably shared a direct BROWN relative within 4-7 generations. He sent me his direct line.....then died a few weeks later, before we could speak again.
Now I have been searching for years the family of my oldest ancestor, Nathaniel Brown b Feb, 1794 in RI, married Eleathea Crocker in 1817 in Concord, Erie, NY...had Ursula, Julia, Eleathea, William, Joseph.
The first records I have of Nathaniel is upon his arrival, "with brother" (possibly Beriah and George, and possibly a
sister, Martha) in western NY state in 1816, buying land in Concord/Sardinia region of Erie county during the Holland Land Transactions.
Now our DNA suggest that my connection falls somewhere between John Browne and Dorothy of England/Rehoboth, Ma and
Allen Brown and Sarah Cooper, 6 generations down.
His line was John>John>Joseph>Jabez>Nicholas>Jeremiah>Allen
Now somewhere in there a John Browne desc. took off to Western NY, possibly by way of VT/MA or straight on through CT. They could have stopped along the way before arriving in Erie county.
In 1820 Census he lived next to an elderly John Brown and spouse. Could be parents but no proof.
Associated families Leland, Rawson, Haywood of MA.
Could have been associated with the early Mormon movement as he and offspring are mentioned in LDS records as being "related" to Joseph Haywood, an early Mormon leader. Subsequent research has proven this connection. However, although it seemed they took a similar path as the Mormons, it appears they were always one step behind them.
If anyone could shed a little light on this it would be appreciated. Nathaniel popped out of that brood somewhere. I hope someone can tell me from whom.
Thanks and happy hunting
Mike
