Donald Eugene 'Don' Brown, 73, Kingsport, went to be with
the Lord Saturday, April 25, 2009.
Born in Bristol, VA, on October 10, 1935, Don was a
graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and Virginia Tech
(VPI) where he studied architecture. He served in the
United States Air Force.
Mr. Brown was an industrial architect at Eastman Chemical
Company for 37 years, where he served as project engineer
for the Toy F. Reid Employee Center. He was a member of
Civitan and the Kingsport Jaycees, and served on the City
and County Planning Commissions. Don was a past President
of the Kingsport Center of Opportunity (Sheltered
Workshop). He was also a member and co-founder of the
Gateway Early Model Firebird Club.
Most recently, Don had been an active volunteer at
Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, where he worked
with the Pharmacy Department. He was also a volunteer
stage manager for the Symphony of the Mountains and the
Youth Orchestra.
He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in
Kingport, where he taught Sunday School and was Clerk of
Session. He was a very active in the Clothes Closet
Ministry. He also served on various committees of Holston
Presbytery, including the Holston Camp Board.
Don was an avid birdwatcher and L.A. Dodgers fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. 'Buster'
Brown, Jr. and Elizabeth Crowe Brown; and his brother,
Karl A. 'Tony' Brown.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Brown; daughter, Laura
Brown; sons, Richard Brown and wife, Meredith, and Rob
Brown and wife, Stacia; and two grandchildren, Valerie and
Julia Brown, all of Kingsport, TN.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 28, 2009,
from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral
Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 2 p.m.
at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Cagle and
Rev. Craig Foster officiating.
