This Joseph Brown was married to Elizabeth(Dent?) c. 1770.
Who were Joseph's parents and where was he born? Elizabeth is thought to be the daughter of Peter Dent who moved from Charles County, MD c. 1765 to VA with other families connected to the Dents. Cooksey and Camden are names of two of those families. Were the Browns also from Charles County, MD or were they already located in a VA? Joseph and Elizabeth had sons named Jesse Dent, Joseph, Rodham and Hezekiah. Hezekiah is a name used in both Dent and Brown families. Jesse is strictly used in Brown families as far as I have been able to determine. Joseph and Elizabeth had a daughter named Orpah which was also the name of Hezekiah Dent's daughter in Charles County, MD.
Joseph Brown and John Dent signed the Oath of Allegiance in Bedford County in October, 1777. William Brown and Peter Dent signed the Oath there in August, 1777 at the same exact time as their names are adjoining on the list. Was William Brown a relative of Joseph and a contemporary of Peter Dent?
Any information regarding Joseph Brown who d. in Bedford Co. would be appreciated. I have a copy of his will that was probated in Bedford County. Witnessed by John and Sarah Dent.
