The following is all of the information that I have been able to find in regards to Lee Brown:
"The Cameron Herald, Thursday, September 22, 1921
MOTHER AND SON DROWN IN ALIGATOR CREEK SATURDAY
In a message to The Cameron Herald Tuesday night Fred M. Herndon, editor of the Thorndale Champion, tells of the death of Mrs. M. L. Brown and son, Lee Brown, in the flood waters of Alligator creek Friday night. They resided at Redfield's gin, Lee Brown being engaged in running the gin.Mrs. Lee Brown was saved from the flood.
Mr. Herndon says that the damage to property and the loss of life in the country around Thorndale cannot be estimated at this time, but will be very heavy. There was only slight damage in the city of Thorndale.
Forty-five bodies were recovered in the streams about Thorndale.
The report says that the big steel bridge across the San Gabriel river on the Thorndale road has been washed away as has the Sheckles bridge on the Gabriel on the road to Rockdale.
Ely Cass of San. Gabriel is reported from Thorndale as having been drowned.A negro whose name is unknown is reported drowned."
From a phone conversation with a relative:
During the Flood of '21, when Lee drowned, their house washed away.Ida was pregnant with her first child Verna. To protect herself and unborn child, she climbed a tree and stayed there all night and the next day, before she was rescued.
The neighbors built three coffins and lined them with sheets. They used a horse drawn wagon to take the coffins to the cemetery.I don't know who the third coffin was for, Millie told me that Vernon Lee and his mother, who was living with them at the time, drowned in the flood.
I would like to be able to find more information regarding Lee's parents, siblings, etc.& hopefully his dob and place of birth.I went to Milam Co., to request a copy of his death certificate, but was told they did not have it on file because so many people drowned during the flood, all of the death information has been sent to Austin, Texas.Because I do not know his parent's name I can not request the death certificate from Austin.
