Many of the old genealogical works about the descendants of Adam Brouwer Berchoven and Magdalena Jacobs Verdon, such at the Hill Manuscript at the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society, have errors in them. One such error pertains to the parentage of Adolphus Brouwer.Adolphus Brouwer was most probably the son of Nicholaes Brouwer (Jacobus Brouwer's brother) and Jannetje Colyer. For detailed information, get a copy of "Brouwer Beginnings", an article by William J. Hoffman from The American Genealogist, Volume 23, Number 4 (April 1947, continued in the Jan., April, and July 1948 issues), with subsequent additions and corrections. If you can't find it, it can be ordered for $5.25 (postage included) from William Brower Bogardus at the Anneke Jans and Everardus Bogardus Descendants Association, 1121 Linhof Road, Wilmington, OH 45177-2917. Tel.: 937-382-3803. It's item #5 on the May 1998 Research Items Sales Catalog (make check payable to William B. Bogardus). Mr. Bogardus is a noted authority on the descendants of Adam Brouwer Berchoven as well. Adolphus Brouwer was married to Jannetje Verdon ("Franchie Parden" being one of many variations of her name). I'm also descended from them and have more information posted at: www.pipeline.com/~lottman.
