I’d be very grateful for any information that you could send. Please include the sources along with the information.

By the way, Ancestry (www.ancestry.com) is allowing free access to its DAR Lineage Books (105 vols) for a very limited time. There was an entry from a descendant of Capt. Nicholas Brouwer:

"The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 9

Miss Emily Elizabeth Stewart.
DAR ID Number: 8352
Born in Washington, D. C.
Descendant of Capt. Nicholas Brower and of Henry Ter Boss, of New York.
Daughter of John Adams Stewart and Martha Josephine Magee, his wife.
Granddaughter of James Sutton Magee and Susan St. Clair Ter Boss, his wife.
Gr.-granddaughter of Henry Ter Boss and Martha Brower, his wife.
Gr.-gr.-granddaughter of Nicholas Brower and Martha Birdsall, his wife.
Nicholas Brower, 1780, commanded a company in the Dutchess county militia, Col. Abraham Brinkerhoff's regiment. His estate at Fishkill was the camping ground for the families taking refuge from the British, who were advancing up the Hudson. He and his wife gave them a home and provided them with ways and means to continue their journey.
Henry Ter Boss ran away and enlisted at the age of sixteen as a private with the Ulster county troops. "

Ancestry has posted this warning about the reliability of the data:

"As with any such contributed database of this size and scope, factual errors may exist in the data, particularly in the area of Revolutionary War service. The NSDAR has gone to great effort to collect and improve upon this valuable collection of ancestral data with additions and corrections whenever possible. For more information on this subject contact the Office of the Registrar General, NSDAR, 1776 D St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006-5392."

According to Hoffman, it was Capt. Brouwer’s parents who owned the estate at Fishkill and helped the refugee families.

Thanks very much.
