There is no female mtDNA study with related or linked in any way to the current Brewer DNA Project. I really don't know of any that are attempting to demonstrate recent connections. Most of the mtDNA work has to do with one's "Deep Ancestry". The mtDNA results will can demonstrate where in the world your direct Female ancestor lived tens of thousands of years ago.
Incidently, males also can be tested for their mtDNA sequence. Everyone, male and female inherits their mtDNA from their mother only. So your mtDNA will be the same as your sisters and your mother. The mtDNA from your father was lost at the time his sperm fertilized your mother's egg. mtDNA is found in the tail of each sperm cell. At the time of fertilization the tail is shed once the sperm has penetrated the egg. As the sperm's tail is lost, so is the father's mtDNA, and so all of us, male and female alike, inherit all of our mtDNA from our mother only.
The mtDNA testing is actually relatively inexpensive, especially if you get the test done at the same time you have the Y-DNA testing done. The benefit is really just of interest to the individual being tested at this time.
