Hi Kenneth,
The information I have about Sarah Cesarie BROUILLARD (later known as Mary Mitchell) is:

b. 5 Februry 1833 on her death certificate 1833 is crossed out and 1840 is written over it. The 1833 date fits with other evidence, however; i.e. census, IGI records. Place of birth on death certificate is listed as Canada. Parents are Joseph Brouillard and "Sazarie" Brouillard, although, I believe the mother's first name is incorrect.

d. 11 Feb 1915, Minneapolis MN death certificate

On her daughter's (my great grandmothers) death certificate, Mary Mitchell's name is listed as Sazaria Brouillard.

LDS holds an IGI record for the birth of a Sarah Cesarie Brouillard b. "ABT 1833, St. Constant, Laprairie, Quebec" to Joseph Peter BROUILLARD and Mary L. ST MARIE.

LDS holds an IGI marriage record for Joseph ST MICHEL to Maria Calaris BROUILLARD, 13 Aug 1853 in Little Chute, Outagamie County, Wisconsin.

LDS has available an older microfiche record at the Minneapolis Public Library which has listings for children born to Joseph St Michel and a mother named BROUILLARD whose first name is listed differently in several records including: Cesariae, Lasariae, Cesarie, Zesaria, and Sisae. Most of the children fit with the later census records and include: Aurelius John, male, chr. 5 Dec 1869; Felicum [Felix], male, chr. 1 Aug 1858; Franciscum Oliverum [Levi], male, chr. 13 Dec 1867; Joseph, male, chr. 5 Aug 1856 [listed in 1880 census, Cedar Township, Floyd County, Ohio as "at assylum (insane)] - [if you know the story, I would love to hear it]; Julianum Elseaum [James], male, chr. 24 Sep 1865; Mariam Alphonsinam [don't know who she is], female, chr. 31 Dec 1874; Mariam Elbinam [also ?], female, chr. 29 April 1874; and, Mary Caesaria [my great grandmother], female, chr. 2 Oct 1872.

1880 Census, Floyd County, Iowa lists : Mitchell J. age 50; wife Sarah age 46, children Joseph (24) [at assylum(insane)], Felix 24, Rosa 20, James 16, Levi 13, Zella 11, Mary 9, all b. wisc., nd John 5, Baby 6/12 (probably Frank) both born Iowa. (Also living in the area are the A and Opportune BROUILLARD, EA and Louisa BROUILLARD, and M and Adell Brouillard families.)

In the 1870 census for Outagamie County, WI, the family is listed as Joseph 40, Mary 38, children Joseph 14, Philip 12, Rosalia, 10 (listed as male on census, but was my grandmother's aunt Rose), James 8, Levi 4, and Louise (Zella?) 3 mo.

By 1882, Mary and her children start showing up in the Minneapolis city directories. She is listed as the widow of Joseph Mitchell. Joseph may be listed in 1881 but I can't be sure it is him. In addition I have the few stories from my grandmother in which she talked about how the Mitchell name was changed from St. Michel and said that Mary/Sarah/Cesarie had built her own house near Appleton, WI. I can't remember the circumstances, but her husband was apparently away from home for long periods of time. I also have at least one postcard to my grandparents from a BROUILLARD relative in the area of Crookston, MN.

Although I know that Sarah/Cesarie/ Mary is a member of the Wisconsin BROUILLARD family, I have not yet entered them formally into my genealogy. I am still waiting for some more corroborating evidence, especially something from that side of the family. Please contact me if you would like any more information, and especially if you get any information on the St. Michel side. I have not yet been able to locate a death record for Joseph in Minneapolis or Iowa. -- Jeanne
