Hal, Thanks for the response. I have been working on a problem with the Garretts.
Before Isom Rainey was 13, his family moved to Giles County, TN. There he met Parthena (?) and married her there in 1827 at the age of 20.They are seen there on the 1830 census.Their first son was William C. for whom a biography has been found thatgives his mother as Parthena Rainey. No Parthena can be found in any Rainey family that was in Giles County, but the Garrett family also lived in Giles County at that time, and there was a Parthena Garrett, sister of Isom’s second wife, that was the right age. There were also brothers named Addison and James, and their father was Samuel Garrett. Three of the children of Isom and Parthena were Addison, James, and Samuel G, suggesting that the Parthena that Isom married could have been Parthena Garrett. When Parthena died after 1840, Isom married Mary M. “Polly” Garrett in 1845.(There is a record that shows the Parthena that was Polly’s sister married John Tillman in Giles County and went to Kentucky, but that Parthena Garrett was about 10 years older than anyone else in this family and born several years before these parents married, so it must have been an aunt or cousin of the Parthena Garret who was Polly’s sister, if htere was one.)The children of both wives match closely with names in the Garrett family.
Do you have any information that would support that the two wives of Isom Rainey were Garrett sisters, daughters of Elizageth and Samuel Garrett?
