"Broughton, Remington Pierce ([email protected])
- was born on July 5, 1823 in a small town outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. He grew up in a moderate family, one of the few which someone could call "Middle Class", in his town at least. He went to Europe at the age of 18 to study in England. He focused primarily on basic education, and focused on military history. At the age of 23 he returned to and enlisted in the US Army to fight in the Mexican-American War. During the war he was wounded in the leg, and latter in the shoulder. After surviving both wounds and emerging from the war at the rank of colonel he decided to take his military career farther and went to West Point, in 1849. He graduated tenth in his class. From there he stayed in the US Army traveling from post-to-post. He was in Maryland when the Southern State succeeded. He was and still is by no means fond of slavery, but understands it place in the world. He quickly escaped to Richmond and from there to North Carolina with his family. There they settled in a home, and then he was summoned by Richmond to serve as a Brigadier General. Fanatically in support of his State (North Carolina) he willing joined.
* he was appointed Brigadier General in the Army of Northern Virginia on April 18th, 1861.
+ he was transferred to west front on April 19th, 1861."
