Apparently this thomas had a brother Patrick matthew who also went to NZ. Thomas enlisted in the army on the 12th March 1842 and left London on the Maitland as a guard on the convict ship Maitland on the 1 May 1846 arriving in Hobart on the 28th October 1846. He later travelled to NZ (Auckland) with his regiment (apparently for the Maori War?) on the HMS Inflexiable leaving Sydney, NSW on the 16th January 1847 and arriving Auckland 25th January 1847. Son John Maitland Brough was born at sea on the way to Tasmania on the 'Maitland' hence he was named after the ship as was the custom of the time. Thomas discharged from the army in the Bay of Islands on the 28th February 1857 with gratuity. Of Thomas's wife I am trying to solve a puzzle. I know she married twice hence the Tozer link but another child was born after Thomas's death: I have her born as an Orr - can anyone please place her for me. This is the information I have come across or been sent: Tombstone inscription - Old Catholic Cemetery - Wanganui - New Zealand reads - Of your charity pray for the soul of Thomas Brough who died 18th July 1876 aged 45 years; also pray for the soul of Agnes, child of Mary, died 13th September 1896 aged 14 years and 8 months (I have this child recored as Agnes beatrice Orr - did Mary marry again or raise a grandchild or look after some one elses child?) ;Charles Patrick Bough died 17th October 1906 aged 30 years and 9 months; also Mary, beloved wife of Thomas, who departed this life 2nd december 1920 aged 70 years; Sarah Ann Brough died 11th January 1876 aged 1 year. (This sounds like Mary did not marry again and is burried with Thomas Brough - so who was Agnes and what was her relationship to Mary and who was Agnes's father?
