ORIGINAL UK conveyance DOCUMENT - 20 December 1837 Parchment : 80cm x 56cm 1 sheet with 3 wax seals, revenue stamp and signature. Summary of contents PARTIES Joseph HANDFORTH of Pointon, Cheshire. Labourer. (Eldest son and heir at law of Joseph HANDFORTH) John HANDFORTH (Deceased). Late of Bramhall, Chester. (Father of Joseph HANDFORTH) John BAILEY of Biddulph, Staffordshire. Farmer. Thomas BROUGH of the New Bent, Biddulph, Staffordshire. SUBJECT John Bailey is buying property in Biddulph, Staffordshire for £40 from Joseph Handforth. The property consists of a plot of 1 acre called 'Carroll Meadow' in Biddulph, Staffordshire, and is surrounded on all sides by land already belonging to John Bailey. We are told that Joseph Handforth is the eldest son and heir of John Handforth of Bramhall, Farmer, who was in turn the eldest son and heir of John Handforth of Marple, Cheshire. (NB. There appears to be a contradiction in the document as to whether the father of Joseph Handforth of Pointon is actually John or Joseph Handforth of Bramhall.) Note that Thomas Brough appears to act only as a trustee in the transaction and plays little real part. DOES THIS ORIGINAL DOCUMENT BELONG TO YOUR FAMILY?
