Hello !
Most Broughs are Scots & of Scottish origins in North America.
If from France, there would likely be a" Royal Company of Scottish Archers" Connection. This was a Jacobite Merc.Unit that fought for King Loiuse XVI of France, against the English Much as the Irish Brigades(2)did. Their contract gave them the right to call the order of battle against the English any time & any place. The scottish unit were much fewer in number than the Irish units. These merc units fought at the battle of Fontenoy & Flanders. The beating they gave the english was paid for by the peoples living in the highlands & ireland afterwards. This would be an unlikely connection though.
If you go back a 1,000 years then, many families of the Brittish Isles have French roots.
Look to New England & NewYork. Also the United Empire Loyalist Association in Canada.
You could also try the roles at the fortress at Louisburgh in Nova Scotia to see if there might be a New France connection. JWB
