Briana,
It was great to see your post.I've checked back several times over the past few years to see if there was any answer to my questions.
Since my first post, I have gathered some more info.I have a picture of the military grave marker at Moody's Chapel. It says: "Thomas Nails Brothers Pvt NC Militia 1760 1837."The marker has been placed there in the last 20 or 30 years (my guess).I believe that whoever placed it there might have had some information incorrect, like the dates of birth and death.Another interesting bit of info I have found is that there was a Thomas Brothers in old Tryon Co., NC with some land in 1776.Some of this area eventually became part of Spartanburg, SC and Mecklenburg, NC.I feel pretty strongly that Thomas was the father of Caleb and probably fought at Cowpens.Cowpens is within a few miles of where Caleb was in 1790-1810.My guess is that he died in the late 1780s in Spartanburg and, therefore, never moved to Alabama. There is also record of a William Brothers in Laurens,SC in 1790 and there is record that he fought in the Spartanburg militia in the Rev. War.He is probably a brother of Thomas.
What is your relation to Caleb? He is my gggggrandfather. The lineage is: Caleb, Isaiah, William, James Monroe, Arthur Houston (grandfather).
Kim
