German Info Source
I have learned of the German National Tourist Office, 122 E. 42nd St., 52nd Floor, New York, NY 10168-0072. I also learned they will give you tips where to write in Germany for information on ancestors.
I wrote to them and told them Frantz Brossman was married in Waldengloch Bie Sinsheim and asked how I could get additional information. Imagine my amazement to receive a large (10x12 inches) envelope of material from them.
Among the contents were: a map of Germany showing where Sinsheim is located; a list of places in Germany and America where one can write for tips on how to proceed; a list of genealogical publications in which one can advertise in your search for an ancestor. I imagine these magazines are similar to the Genealogy Helper.
Also included was a list of hotels throughout German and rates; a booklet, Travel Tips for Germany. This booklet tells about cruises, passports, rail travel, currency, car rentals and anything else one could imagine.
Perhaps best of all is the 34 page booklet of the scenic and historical pictures of Germany, all in color. This, by itself, is worth the effort in writing.
Just write to the tourist office above and tell them you are searching for your ancestor who came from Germany and want any information they can provide. Ask them to please be sure to include the 34-page booklet entitled Today's Germany.
