1915-03-11 Chicago Tribune (IL) Z. P. BROSSEAU IS DEAD. Edition: Chicago Tribune Z. P. Brosseau's death yesterday at his residence, 406 Barry avenue, removes the head of the oldest grain house on the Chicago board of trade. Mr. Brosseau had been a member since 1862 and his house has existed continuously under the name of Brosseau & Co. ever since. Mr. Brosseau came to Chicago in 1860 from Quebec. He was 74 years old and one of the leaders in the French-Canadian colony in Chicago. For his efforts on behalf of the French residents of the city and his activities he was created a chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the president of France. He is survived by his widow and four ons, Louis C., Joseph E., Leonard A., Pierre, and four daughters, Mrs. A. J. Amberg, Genevieve, Louise, and Marion. Brosseau, died yesterday at his residence at West Park on the Hudson. He was one of the oldest and most successful grain men on the Chicago board of trade from 1877 to 1912. He retired in the latter year and has since resided on his farm on the Hudson. He was born at La Prairie, Canada, in 1852 and was 63 year old. Coming to Chicago in 1877, he joined the board of trade and became associated with J. B. Hobbs & Co. and remained with that firm until 1887, when he started in business for himself. S. highway 45, three miles north of Kankakee, in a blinding snowstorm. He was identified from papers in his pockets as Sidney McGinty, 61, of 635 Hillside av., Glen Ellyn. He had a student pilot's license. The plane was a Cessna 172, and crashed in a field on the Roland Brosseau farm, just west of highway 45, 1 1/2 miles north of Bourbonnais. Sheriff's deputies said that snow was falling so heavily at the time of the crash that visibility was practically zero on the ground. Several nearby residents reported they heard a plane flying low. Larsen, 85, of 454 Indian ct., Park Forest, who was employed 56 years by the University of Chicago, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today in the chapel at 87th street and Dorchester avenue. Mr. Larsen died on Sunday in St. James hospital, Chicago Heights. He was employed in the laboratory supply department of the university in 1894, two years after the university opened. Watched Division Grow At the time, the university's biological sciences division was located in Kent and Ryerson halls on the campus quadrangle. By the time he retired in November, 1950, he had watched the division grow to its present multimillion dollar complex of hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. In handling supplies for the physics, chemistry, and biology departments, Mr. Larsen became acquainted with most of the scientific faculty members and many officials of the university, including the late William Rainey Harper, the school's first president. Ship Used Sails Mr. Larsen came to Chicago in 1883 from Oslo, Norway, on a ship that used sails during part of the two week crossing. Prior to working for the university, he was employed at the E. A. Sargent Chemical Supply company. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Brosseau; three sons, Ralph B., Glenn M., and Leonard A.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and sisters. Kramer, 58, of 917 Clement av., Joliet, was killed and her husband, Arthur, 59, and administrative assistant at the Joliet Herald-News, was injured when their car went out of control and struck a tree near Quincy, Adams county. The Kramers were en route to a state meeting of the Illinois Newspaper Mechanical association in Quincy. Mr. Kramer was secretary-treasurer of the organization. Passenger, 50, Killed Mrs. Ethel May Pacini, 50, of 8607 Phillips av., was killed yesterday near San Jose, Ill., when the car in which she was a passenger left the highway and overturned. The driver of the auto, Mrs. Genevieve Cesare, 54, 11100 Avenue L, was taken to Lincoln Memorial hospital, Lincoln, where she was listed in critical condition. State police said the Cesare car went out of control when it swerved to avoid hitting an auto making a left turn across its path. Margarito Garcia, 21, of 3807 Butternut st., East Chicago, was killed in Indiana highway 51, north of 33d avenue in East Gary, when he hit a truck head-on when he switched lanes to avoid hitting a group of horseback riders. Harold LaSage, East Gary police chief, said Garcia was southbound in highway 51 when the accident occurred. Two passengers in his car, Julio Flores, 20, of 3603 Elm st., and Jerry Vasquesz, 18, of 3822 Main st., East Chicago, were in good condition in Mercy hospital, Gary. The driver of the truck, James E. Hicks, 25, of Cleveland, was not injured. Loses Control of Car Miss Roberta Houston, 18, of 1016 Michigan City rd., Calumetn City, was killed late Friday when the car she was driving went out of control and struck another in Burnham avenue, Calumet City. Three other persons were injured in the accident. Miss Carol Jean Brosseau, 17, of 805 Muskegon av., Calumet City, a passenger in Miss Houston's auto, was in fair condition in St. Margaret's hospital, Hammond. The driver of the other car, Stanley Dziadon, 58, of 13011 Carondolet av., was treated and released. His wife, Emily, was in good condition in the hospital with cuts and bruises. Auto Jumps Lane Police said Miss Houston was southbound in Burnham avenue and after crossing a bridge her car went out of control and swerved into the northbound land, hitting Dziadon's car in the side. Up to midnight Friday, 318 persons had been killed in traffic accidents in Cook county since Dec. 31. Of these, 190 were in Chicago, where 29,735 persons were injured in the same period.
