I am investigating the possibility that Anna Maria, wife of my ancestor Gottfried THOMAS, was a BROSIUS, perhaps the daughter of Sebastian Brosius. Gottfried Thomas (b. Dec 30, 1769) was the son of a Peter Thomas, of Bethel Twp., Berks County, PA. He and Anna Maria had their first son before 1794, with the second child baptized August 1794 at Klopp's Church, Bethel Twp., Lebanon Co. The rest of the children were baptized at Himmel's Church in Northumberland County. Gottfried's father Peter had died in 1789, and in the early 1790s the family migrated to the Mahoney Twp. area of Northumberland County. I have not located the burial location of Gottfried or Anna Maria.
Of particular interest are the three baptisms sponsored by Brosius family members. Anna Maria Brosius (widow), sponsored the baptism of Sara Thomas in 1805. Leonhart Brosius and wife Marg. sponsored the baptism of Marg. Thomas in 1806. Peter Brosius and Marg. sponsored the baptism of Peter Thomas in 1811. (These 3 Thomas children all belonged to Gottfried and Anna Maria).
In addition, there is a Jacob Schmidt and wife Sussanna who sponsored the baptism of Samuel Thomas in 1811 (son of Gottfried and Anna Maria), as well as Gottfried Brosius (son of Nicolaus Brosius) in 1801. I haven't figured out how they might be linked.
Two of Gottfried Thomas' brothers, Christian and Jacob, sponsor baptisms of children of Abraham Brosius and wife Cath. in 1799 and 1803. Christian Thomas' wife was Maria Elizabeth. Could she also be a Brosius?
As can be seen, there is a very strong linkage between these families, with no facts to support it (at least that I have found). Has anyone noticed this, or have any other ideas to prove or disprove it?
