My name is Michael Brophy of Abington, Massachusetts USA. The Brophy family DNA project has a new link to the home page at Family Tree DNA it is: https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=P58641&special=true Genetic Genealogy is an exciting new complement to our existing research. It is a growing field with seemingly unlimited potential. The objective of the project are as follows: Identify others who are related Prove or disprove theories regarding ancestors Solve brick walls in your research Determine a location for furthur research Validate existing research The Y-chromosome is passed on from father to son unchanged, except for the occasional mutation. Testing the Y chromosome will provide us with a genetic fingerprint consisting of 12, 37 or 67 numbers. Testing involves taking a few swipes from your mouth and sending it in to Family Tree DNA. By comparing the finger print to others in our surname, we can determine if we are related. I suggest you start off with the 12 marker test through Family Tree DNA for an affordable cost. We can upgrade later on from the initial test if more exact markers are needed. Please pass this e-mail along to any Brophys you know that may be interested in participating in the project.
