James,
I have a copy of research done by Genevieve Broome Jones of West Point, GA. She indicates that Melius Broome was the father of James,Mary, Melius Jr., John, Hannah, William, Nancy and Spyers. All sons except Melius moved to SC. John moved to Hamburg and married Jeannett Witherspoon. John and Jeannett later moved to Florida with their two children John Scott and James Emelius. James became Gov. of Florida and John Scott was Chief Marshall on the day of the inaugration of the first gov. of Florida and served as Lt. Gov. of Florida.
Genevieve Broome Jones' research is a book entitled CHILDREN MEET YOUR ANCESTORS...Westpoint, Ga, 1976.
There should be a copy in the Georgia Archives. I have not double checked her work but she cites chapter and verse on most of her research and admits where assumptions are made. It is a very interesting work.
